Shrewsbury Youth Lacrosse (SYL) - Massachusetts

  • Please be advised that our payment system is currently down. Continue to register for the 2020 SYL season before the $50 late fee starts on 1/6/2020. We should have the new payment system up and running shortly.

Shrewsbury Boys' Youth Lacrosse (SYL) promotes the game of lacrosse, sportsmanship, teamwork and athleticism.  We welcome players of all skill levels.  Our goal is to teach our kids the proper skills, along with training and conditioning, so they get a full understanding of the game, and they develop a life-long love for lacrosse!  We play all of our kids equally in our Town/Classic program, regardless of skills and experience, in order to nurture their participation in this great game and to provide a positive experience for all involved.  As part of the Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League (MBYLL), there are no scores or standings kept and no championships awarded.  We have found this creates a great environment to develop players of all abilities in a sport which is new to most.  Boys in 1st-8th grade.

For our older divisions (U13 and U15), we also have tryouts for our SELECT level play.  This is a  more competitive game, keeping score and the with season culminating with 2 playoff rounds and a championship.

SYL believes everyday is a great day to be a lacrosse player!

Spring 2020 Registration Now Open!

The cost is $220 per player, which does not include the cost of equipment.  A credit card is required to sign up.

Early Bird Special:  Register by November 30th  and get a free pair of SYL socks!

Lacrosse is a Spring sport and is ideal for football, basketball, hockey and soccer players. In fact, lax is for anyone who likes action packed, dirty, sweaty competition. We will begin indoor practices in February right after school winter vacation.  In mid-March we will begin weekly practices 1-2 days/week.  We play an 8-game schedule against surrounding towns starting in April and the season ends with a Jamboree event at Fort Devens in early June (It’s the largest lacrosse Jamboree in the country!!).   Kids love playing “lax” and parents enjoy watching!

Why lacrosse is the best spring sport….

  • Games are fast, 40 minutes of action!
  • Playing lacrosse is FUN. Watching lacrosse is FUN.
  • Every player touches the ball, every game.
  • Your kid WILL break a sweat!
  • He WILL play in the rain. In mud. And snow. And heat.
  • Learning TEAMWORK is paramount to a player’s success
  • Lacrosse is played at practically every high school in Massachusetts
  • And did we mention, it’s FUN!

There are no try-outs for our Town/Classic program and teams will be evenly organized and balanced.  We field all players among the age-group team as equally as possible with the goal of teaching the sport of lacrosse and providing a fun experience for everyone involved.

Our league is growing fast and we are always looking for people to help with coaching, administrative and other duties, so please contact us at if you’d like to volunteer.  We’ve had some excellent coaches and helpers over the years that have never played lacrosse, so don’t let inexperience stop you if you're new to the sport!

Important – Timely registration is critical since we need to register our teams by mid-December with MBYLL (our parent league) for the 2020 Spring season, so don’t wait to sign up!

Please help us spread the word by telling your friends and neighbors about our program.

Thank You for Your Support!  Please join us!

Beall-Hull Sportsmanship Award

The Beal-Hull Sportsmanship Award is presented at the Jamboree to an 8th grader who best exemplifies, effort, teamwork, improved skill, and an overall passion for the sport of lacrosse.

The 2019 award went to Thomas TJ Welch.

TJ's playing style is based on hard work and effort.  He always gives 100% at practice, and sightly more at games!  TJ plays hard, is eager to learn, works in his game at home, and never complains.  Congrats TJ!

Don Beall Spirit of the Game Award

Don Beall Spirit of the Game Award:

On Friday, July 8th 2016 Shrewsbury Boys Youth Lacrosse awarded the first annual Don Beall Spirit of the Game Award to Noah Bryant. The Spirit of the Game Award was created to honor outgoing Board President Don Beall, a founding member of Shrewsbury Boys Youth Lacrosse who has been instrumental in making the program what it is today.

Don Beall, along with Matt Hull and a small group of volunteer fathers started Shrewsbury Boys Youth Lacrosse in 2002. The program began that year with around 25 kids and two teams.  Today, Shrewsbury Boys Youth Lacrosse has a membership of close to 200 players, with 12 teams competing in four different age groups including a select league. It is through Don’s hard work, commitment, and leadership that the Shrewsbury Boys Youth Lacrosse has thrived and become one of the most respected youth lacrosse programs in Central Massachusetts.

The Don Beall Spirit of the Game Award will be presented at the end of each season to an outgoing 8th grade player who exhibits all of these characteristics. Award recipients will be chosen by coaches and their peers based on qualities that were important to Don - sportsmanship, character, work ethic, and passion for the game of lacrosse.  Shrewsbury Boys Youth Lacrosse strives to instill this philosophy in all of its players, coaches, and families.

In nominating Noah Bryant, coach Greg Haley noted his special qualities as a teammate, a competitor and a leader.

“Noah gives 110% regardless of the situation in any game.  He rallies his teammates in a positive manor and encourages those around him to be better players and better people.  His positive nature, fun loving attitude and amiable personality makes him a pleasure to have on the team.

Noah is intelligent, friendly, courageous, hardworking, loyal and generous.  All attributes that embody the values that Don Beall has demonstrated since he started Shrewsbury Youth Lacrosse”

Shrewsbury Boys Youth Lacrosse looks forward to continuing its tradition of developing its players with the skills needed to be successful in any endeavor they take on and to be valuable assets to the community.

Thank You!
